I can't choose on what networks to automatically tunnel, but this used to be the case. (I recently upgraded to Android 9, related?) Instead, TunnelBear tries to connect automatically all the time. This is not what I need. At home my phone should not connect. Furthermore, the ongoing notifications while the app is not connected are annoying. I understand that's necessary for apps to run foreground services, but why do you need a foreground service in the first place? To try and connect all the time? That's not good!

Normally I would give this 5 stars, but recently I've been having a couple problems. First off, sometimes my settings will be reset so I have to check first every time. But the main problem is that the app won't work a lot of times when I try connecting. I'll toggle the connect button and it will turn grenade but the sheep icon and map stays exactly how it was and never connects. I usually have to restart my phone before it will actually work right.

This app has recurring amnesia. Every time I update it on my Android, and even sometimes when I don't, it logs me out and forgets all about me. Even if I'm logged in, sometimes it arbitrarily decides I don't really have a paid account, and scolds me. It seems like a VPN service is a relatively simple thing, or at least the app that provides it ought to be simple, but somehow this app just gets worse over time. It's great when it works, but that's all too seldom.
